Possibly one of the most interesting hashtags on twitter right now is one that isn’t trending. The question is – why isn’t it trending? It has celebrity endorsement, humor, and insults – the normal criteria for any twitter trend. But for some odd reason, #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement isn’t trending – depsite the fact Stephen Colbert has tweeted it’s hashtag 29 times (as of 19:30 GMT) to his over 2 million followers.

One of those followers (now an ex-follower) even posted:

The #AskAlex trend was a shortlived one, lasting only about an hour. However – it still gives some insight as to how PR companies can use twitter to further their brand and create relationships with their consumer.

Also, it’s no small feat that Alexandra Burke (the Alex in question) managed to take out the Lady Gaga centric #bornthisway trend. So congrats to the English XFactor winner – for one hour, your fans overtook Gaga’s birthday wellwishers.

After a busy week – it’s time I returned to analyzing those fascinating little twitter trends. Imagine how pleased I was when I saw #100thingsaboutme on the trending list?

It’s a hashtag that just begs to be trended – what with requiring each person to post it 100 times.

The 100 Things About Me meme isn’t that unusual either – anyone who has taken their hand to blogging or even facebooking has encountered it on at least one occasion.

So who brought it to Twitter? And how can you use it to help your brand?

Wednesday may not be mentioned in Rebecca Black’s hit “Friday,” but it marks the 3rd day in a row that “Rebecca Black” has trended on Twitter.

For about two days now I’ve seen #thingthatdontgotogether in the right hand corner of my twitter. I couldn’t help but wonder a couple things. Who thought of hashtagging it in the first place? What are the best comments so far? And why don’t people use proper punctuation?
